Engine was installed in 2012. It was a takeout from a commercial boat with 300 hours at time of removal. The engine was internally inspected and adjusted by T and S Marine in Crisfield, MD. It is coupled to a Twin Disc 506 transmission with trolling valve, 2" stainless steel shaft, and a 25x24" four blade NiBrAl wheel. The Ava B cruises at 14.7 knots at 2250 rpm and 8 GPH fuel consumption; top speed is 17-18 knots.
The power hydraulic steering has two steering stations with spool valve controls. There is also a steering speed control for faster rudder response during slow maneuvering and docking. Throttle and shifting are operated by very smooth Kobelt commercial-grade controls.
Ava B was originally built in 1999. Her hull is cold-molded epoxy composite. In 2012, her original working deckhouse and deck were removed and completely replaced with a larger cabin and extended hardtop that is more appropriate for comfortable cruising and fishing. The new structure is built to high standards of cold-molded vinylester composite.
